A servo system comprised of a MDD motor and a compatible controller is a cost-effective solution for industrial automation applications. MDD motors assure high contouring accuracies at high feed rates, in particular when used for cutting in high-speed ranges. Because of their very high power density. MDD071 motors are highly suited to highly dynamic applications such as roller feeds for pressing, punching and nibbling machines as well as tool changing devices. MDD servo motors are permanent magnet-excited synchronous motors that support electronic commutation. The permanent magnets of the rotor are made of rare earth or iron oxide magnetic materials. Use of such materials for magnet construction enables low inertia motor construction. Components of MDD motors include laminated core with magnets, winding, optional blocking brake, rotor shaft and feedback mechanism.

MDD motors offer high reliability because of maintenance-free operation. The brushless motor design and use of lifetime-lubricated bearings enable high motor reliability. A sealed housing, sealed cable connector and IP65 protection rating enable use of MDD motors directly within the working are of the machines. MDD motors feature a temperature sensor that is integrated into the motor windings. This temperature sensor helps to prevent overload damage.
